LCA's look like new again....49 years after production
Mechanic Monday
rise and shine....
more parts in the right color
Picked up some parts from the powdercoater today!!! Starting assembly of the leafsprings this weekend.

I found out that some parts need to be yellow dichromated
4 buckets of steel parts in total...
sorted out more nuts & bolts today...

2012/12/07

Brakecilinder and it's baseplate are mounted on the firewall by nuts in 3 different finishes...
another detail.....the pitman-arm was untreated, bare steal, so very prone to rust. I ordered RPM, from a company called ECS Automotive; bare steel part needs to be heated a little, smeared in with colorless RPM and this stuff will prevent the part from rusting, but you still keep the original bare look. Pitman-arm is untreated, bare; the snapring and nut were cleaned and i found out that the snap-ring is black fosfated, and the nut is natural cadmium plated.
after hours and hours of searching, i finally found out how all original bolts and nuts were finished...black fosfate, silver cadmium plated, yellow dichromate...etc etc.
Chrysler used multiple vendors for their small parts supply; trunklock and catcher were silver cad treated, and the hoodlatch and hoodlock were dichromate yellow; and so these will be treated the same again. The bolts were black fosfated originally, and they will be again..50 years after production
k-member will be a greyish color, instead of the original black finish; a few k-members were bought by Chrysler from another vendor, and they painted the k-members a greyish color; as was mine. So it will be original finish again. Leafsprings will be a silk-flat black; Max Wedge cars got the police-style leafsprings, that were black instead of untreated bare steal, like the lesser powered cars had.
My dad made some steel plates to close the axle-case; I brought the stuff to the powdercoater this afternoon to give it some new paint.

Our new government wants to piss us vintage-car-lovers even more off... now they want to have us paying taxes for our cars.... Why aren't they chasing the real criminals and losers who don't make any positive contribution to our society. I say... DUTCH GOVERNMENT A BIG F.U.

because my physical condition is a little on the low side the last few weeks, i didn't do much on the car, except for taking some parts off the partscar. Took a door apart. Nice spareparts for the Savoy.

I managed to get the fuelline out of the car in one piece; due to the factory undercoating..it was undamaged and fully useable. Needs some cleaning though.
I mounted the FIRST RECONDITIONED PART on Peebles!!! a rubber bumpstop, for the left upper control arm. It is the original bumpstop, cleaned and checked!!
Took some more parts off the partscar.

My friend Wes Pieper, from Boerne, Texas, sent me a box full of NOS parts; non-useable parts for my car though, but nice to put in a cabinet in our livingroom. Wes is the vice-pres of the Dodge Charger Registry club of America.
measuring the positions of the marks, so they can be duplicated in a later stage of the restoration. You can also see the dripmarks on the torsionbars; they were dipped in glossy black paint for 3-4 times; which gave them a thick coating of paint, but it also gave the bars paintruns. Will be duplicated ofcourse!
original paintmarks on the torsionbars
Saved the original torsionbar rubbers

talking about finding original parts; the rod-ends still have original dustcaps on them; in very nice shape; they will be cleaned and put on the Savoy. I will ditch the repro-dustcovers ofcourse! OEM all the way, baby.
tons of trim on a fully loaded Fury...
Today i sorted out all of the stainless and chrome trim from the partscar; half was still on the car..rest was in the trunk. Trim looked perfect! I am not gonna put any side trim on my plain jane Savoy.
Chrome won't bring ya home

according to the moparguru's..a k-member and a transmission x-member should be silkflat black...nope...Mine are grey. Original paint.
Antoon came to the rescue and helped me tonight with removal of the engine of the partscar. The motor and transmission are going to Chris in Germany. He is totally into the Poly-engines.

How many cubic inches does my engine have???
DON'T U JUST LOVE PATINA........
With help from my bud Tommie, we got the Fury inside the garage tonight; next week my 2-week holiday starts, so i can start dismantling the car again. Still keeping it easy, still need to recover from my last surgery 5 weeks ago.

My new engine, thanks to my mopar-bud Jeroen Metske. He was so kind to sell me his 413 Wedge engine. Produced on November 1st, 1963, correct castingnumbers, correct date. This is an AAQA-engine, with a thicker casting, which can handle more horses. Thanks again Jeroen!
The body is ready for pick-up. I am gonna put her on wheels, and then she can get the exterior done. I hope to get her in the bodyshop again in about 2 months; i still need to recover from my last surgery 3 weeks ago, so i can't do much on the car myself for now.
